Concrete Driveways in Vancouver
A driveway that carries trucks, plows and freeze cycles without cracking apart in three winters.
What usually goes wrong
Most failed driveways in Vancouver did not fail because of the concrete. They failed because the base was never compacted, the slab was poured too thin, or nobody cut the joints in time.
A driveway takes more abuse than any other slab on the property. Delivery trucks, road salt, plow blades and thirty freeze cycles a year all work against it. We build ours on a compacted stone base with the thickness and reinforcement the load actually calls for, then finish and cure them so the surface stays tight.
What is included
- Removal and haul-away of the old slab
- Excavation and grading for positive drainage away from the house
- Compacted crushed stone base, tested in lifts
- Fiber or rebar reinforcement sized to the expected load
- Saw-cut control joints placed within 24 hours of the pour
- Broom, exposed aggregate or stamped finish
- Site cleanup and written care instructions
Materials and finishes
Broom finish
The standard. Textured for grip in wet and icy weather, easiest to maintain.
Exposed aggregate
The surface paste is washed back to reveal the stone. Excellent traction, hides wear.
Stamped border
A patterned band around a broom-finished field. Detail without the full cost of a stamped slab.

Driveway questions we hear
More general questions about cost, timing and permits are answered on the homepage.
Four inches is common for cars. We pour five to six inches with reinforcement where an RV, a work truck or regular delivery traffic is involved. The base underneath matters as much as the thickness.
Rarely a good idea. An overlay copies the movement of whatever is under it. If the old slab is cracked or settled, we remove it. If it is sound and only worn, resurfacing can be a fair option and we will tell you which one you have.
